An angle on Hawksmoor\'s masterpiece

Not much of the old East End has survived though quite a few of the original streets around this 18th century masterpiece remain intact. Until very recently this building was black - it was amazing to see it emerge from its restoration almost gleaming white. By several accounts this imposing building had the deliberate intention of intimidating the local non-conformists and freethinkers - the East End has always been an edgy place, Apparently the brief decreed that Christ Church should be built with an 'awe-full majesty'.
