Standing Proud

Heron with a red background

I was amazed when I first saw this fellow when I was taking a walk along the Grand Union Canal one night. I didn't know we had big birds (or anything much in the way of wild life apart from foxes) in London. As you will see from the next few pictures I have seen many herons since. But I have convinced myself they are all the same one and so now I greet him like an old pal whenever I spot him. Of course, I don't know anything about birds and someone might tell me that you can easily determine from the plumage or beak that he is, in fact, a she. Nonetheless, I prefer to think of him as a him. Go to Next Image or LDN 3 Gallery
