It can be a long wait for something tasty

Heron waiting fro dinner

Amazingly enough he was still on patrol as I walked back - a good hour after I had first seen him. It was interesting that he was entirely unfazed by me and anybody else that passed by on our (human) side of the canal. His position was completely secure though he did glance across occasionally. Watching him for any length of time, as I did that night and several times subsequently, the idea that dinosaurs were the ancestors of birds doesn't seem at all far fetched. He really is a very alien creature seeming to exist in an entirely separate world. I suppose that is true for most wild animals but the chance to observe them in their own world is pretty rare in London. Go to Next Image or Previous Image or LDN 3 Gallery
