Inside Westminster Tube Station

Futuristic Westminster Tube Station

While so much of the refurbishment of The Tube comes out as a very poor pastiche of the great pre-war London Underground design era, the Jubilee Line Extension running from Westminster to Stratford is an absolute masterpiece. Each station was designed by a different architect and it seems no expense was spared. For me the highlights are this station, Southwark and Canary Wharf - but they are all superb. Given our penny pinching approach to public transport I have no idea how this happened - but I'm delighted it did. I aim to photograph all the stations - though it's not easy as, for obvious reasons, LU staff are very suspicious of anybody wandering around their stations snapping away. I haven't quite managed it yet but, if you enjoy great railway architecture, it would be worth spending a day and getting off at every stop for a good look around.
